ALLAHABAD: Those seeking arms licences would now have to submit Adhaar card copy along with other verified documents.
They would also have to undergo a physical test by the police to check their capability in handling the weapon for which they have applied. A SSP/SP rank official would be present during physical test. Police would also take finger print of applicant during the physical test before awarding an all-clear certificate for SBBL, DBBL, pistol or revolver.
The state home department authorities have issued an order (No-7/writ-914/Six-P-5-2014-writ-401/2012) dated December 29, 2014 asking all district magistrates to follow norms in compliance of the directives issued by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on November 13, 2014.The applicant will also have to bear the cost of the cartridge used in the firing test that would be mandatory for applicants of all categories. District police chiefs can seek assistance of district level rifle clubs to conduct the test.Those who have already acquired arms licences would be called for physical test at the time of renewal of documents.
Further, licence holders over 65 years of age would be required to submit medical certificate issued by the chief medical officer with special reference to their capability to handle arms. There would be cancellation of licence where arm was not purchased even after expiry of six months from the date of issuance of the licence, the new norms stipulate.
