Thiruvananthapuram: About 16 lakh people in the state are yet to link their bank accounts to Aadhaar number - a pre-requisite for availing subsidy on LPG cylinders. Starting Monday, only non-subsidised LPG cylinders would be available in the open market.

The cylinders will not be available for the current subsidised rate of Rs 444. People, who have not linked their Aadhaar number to bank account, will have to pay the full amount to buy the cylinder.

However, oil companies have assured people that they needn't worry about losing out on the subsidy. A 'parking period' has been allowed for the next month too - during which consumers will have to pay the full price for LPG cylinders, but the subsidised rates would be paid back once they link their Aadhaar to bank account.

About 76 lakh domestic users get their LPG cylinders through three oil companies in the state. From this about 60,67,000 users have linked their Aadhaar numbers to bank accounts. Most number of people who have linked their accounts are from Wayanad (97.13%), followed by Pathanamthitta (90.04%).
Idukki has the least number of users with bank accounts linked to Aadhaar number (72.31%). Ernakulam with the most number of LPG gas users have about 78.2% people who have linked accounts.
