A joint meeting of various trade unions held here recently came down heavily on the latest stipulations insisted by the officials to get the unorganised workers register their names with various welfare boards.
N. Sekar, district president of AITUC, told reporters that the workers were asked to bring along Aadhaar card when they go for enrolment. “This is unfair considering that a lot of people are yet to get their Aadhaar cards.” he said. Similarly, the Unions were critical of the directions asking the workers to get certificates from Village Administrative Officer to authenticate their profession at the time of enrolment. “Such guidelines give scope for corruption”.
Members of CITU, AITUC, HMS, BMS, LPF and INTUC alleged that huge delay was occurring in processing the applications given by the member workers of the welfare boards to get the educational and maternity assistances.
