NOIDA: The district administration has launched a campaign to link Aadhaar card numbers with electoral photo identity cards (EPICs). The exercise comes under the Election Commission's initiative for the National Electoral Rolls Purification and Authentication Programme to ensure that there are no bogus voters in electoral rolls.
Rajesh Kumar Yadav, SDM Dadri, said the aim was to build an authentic database and eliminate bogus voters and multiple voter cards. "The booth level officers (BLOs) will go from door to door to collect details from the electorate. We will weed out duplicate voters in the campaign, which will run till the end of July," Yadav said.
Once the linking of Aadhaar numbers with the EPIC database is completed, the electoral rolls will be published error-free. The officials said that they would organize camps to facilitate the linking for the public. Yadav said that a separate camp would also be organized where people can get their Aadhaar cards if they do not have one yet.
According to the latest official data, there are a total of 12,77,204 voters in Gautam Budh Nagar Lok Sabha constituency. The total number of voters in the Noida assembly seat are 5,25,961 while the total number of first-time voters in Noida are 6,026.
The ECI launched the electoral roll purification programme in the first week of March after it came to its notice that multiple entries, repeating images and repeating EPIC numbers still exist in electoral rolls.
Officials have been directed to work sincerely and link the EPIC cards of all voters with their Aadhaar cards within the stipulated time.
People can also link their Aadhaar card number with the voter card by calling the tollfree number 1950.
