Long queues are seen at the Tiruchirapalli City Corporation zonal offices as people, who failed to record their bio-metric details throng centres.

With the Aadhaar cards becoming essential for getting LPG subsidy under the Direct Benefit Transfer and linkage with Electors Photo Identity Cards, there has been a rush at the camps for recording biometric data for issue of national identity cards in the city over the past few days.

Long queues are seen at the Tiruchirapalli City Corporation main office and its zonal offices as people, who have failed to record their bio-metric details so far, throng the centres.

However, the limited number of kits and teams deployed for carrying out the process has led to complaints from residents that they are forced for wait for several hours.

According to corporation sources, about 84 per cent of the 7.92 lakh above-five population in the city has been covered so far. Recording of the biometric details of the rest of the population is going on now.

There was a lull for many months at the centres but many people are coming to record their bio-metric data, the sources observed.

Those who come with the acknowledgement slips issued during the population census are assigned specific dates for recording biometric details.

Those without the slips had to fill the necessary forms and then go for recording of the biometric details. The corporation has deputed its staff to issue the forms to those who are not covered during the census.

According to sources, an additional team has been deployed now at Corporation Main Office where the Golden Rock zone residents are covered, in view of the rush over the past few days.

However, people who had queued at the corporation office on Wednesday complained that they were being forced to wait for long under the scorching sun.

“I am waiting for two hours after coming here at 9.30 a.m. The process seems to be slow and it takes not less than 15 minutes to record details of each person,” said a youth from Mela Kalkandarkottai. His father, who had accompanied him, suggested that the corporation deploy more teams at the centres to speed up the process.

Apart from LPG subsidy and linkage to the EPIC taken up under the National Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Programme (NERPAP), pensioners are making a beeline to the centres as they are required to provide their Aadhaar details. “They are even asking for the Aadhaar cards in schools and I am here to get the card for my children,” said another person waiting in the queue.
