7845 - Maharashtra to shut down 4000 government schools

Maharashtra will shut down about 4000 government schools with less than 10 students. According to reports, over 500 schools in Raigad and 100 schools in Chandrapur district will close down by the new academic session closure. According to official reports, the schools will be shut down as there  is no proper infrastructure, functional crisis. vernacular medium of education, poor teaching quality, cramped infrastructure, lack of  students.

According to the report about 30,000 students will be transferred to other Maharashtra government schools with a high  enrollment number.  There are about 4,000 govt schools which have less than 10 students.  The number of government schools which have 10-19 students are 13400 while the total number of government schools in Maharashtra is 64,000. It has been noticed that nowadays the parents prefer to send their children to public schools despite the high fess due to better facilities, reliability of the private schools, better qualified teachers and medium of instruction. The infrastructure at the private schools are far better. The pass percentage of the private schools are much better than the government schools.
In another newsMaharashtra Government has decided to link school students’ admission registration numbers to Aadhar card in order to effectively implement the Right to Education Act. A campaign to prepare Aadhaar cards for school children will be undertaken from April 27 to June 26, according to a government resolution (GR) issued here on Tuesday.

The state government has asked the local administration to ensure that school children at the taluka and village levels are issued Aadhaar cards within 60 days and the UID numbers are linked to their school admission numbers.
