DINDIGUL, May 2, 2015

STAFF REPORTER

The last date for linking and authentication of EPIC data of electors with Aadhaar details in the district should be extended upto December as Dindigul Corporation has not completed the work. Majority of voters’ Aadhaar card details were not linked to the electoral rolls , said P. Pandi, CPI(M) District Secretary. In a press release here on Friday, he said that election commission had decided to close the linking work on April 30. Many eligible voters did not have Aadhaar card. When they approached the office concerned, Aadhaar officials advised them to come to the office for registration after two months. It will take another one month to take photographs for Aadhaar cards. The last date should be extended up to December to complete the work as the next Assembly election would be held only after May 2016.

At present, only two Aadhaar centres – Dindigul corporation office and Dindigul taluk office – were functioning for undertaking the linking work. More centres should be opened to cover all eligible voters. The district election officials should not delete any voter’s name from the existing electoral roll till the completion of linking work, he insisted.
