The general public applying for Aadhaar cards are peeved at the absence of remedial measures for prevention of overcrowding at the Erode Taluk Office since the start of the week.

The sparse staff deputed by Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited (ELCOT) for registering details of the applicants are finding it tough to carry out the process, due to the commotion caused by overcrowding.

Intervention by the district administration by way of deputing a few regular staff for the duration of the registration process would be of immense help to the public, particularly the aged people and women who are required to stand in the queue under hot sun for hours, according to G. Haridass, Erode Taluk Secretary of Tamil Nadu All Department Pensioners' Association.
In fact, there is no need for standing in queues, since the signature of the public is not required for the registration process. Since the applicants only have to furnish their names and family card numbers to get the application for Aadhaar card, the staff could by themselves quickly note down the details of applicants on a rough paper after verifying the family cards and later make computer entries, Mr. Haridass explained.
In the coming days, the over-crowding could intensify further since those submitting the filled-up applications for Aadhaar card would add up to the queue, he cautioned. Those submitting the applications are given dates for photographs.

The chaos was entirely avoidable, Erode District Secretary of Tamil Nadu All Department Pensioners Association V. Panneerselvam said.
