VIJAYAWADA/ONGOLE: The notification for MLC elections will be issued on June 9 to fill the two seats in Krishna district under local bodies’ quota and polling will be conducted separately for two constituencies and the voters can cast their vote separately in both constituencies, collector Babu A has said.
At a meeting convened with people’s representatives and officials here Wednesday, the collector said that there were 1,192 voters in the district of which 650 were women and 542 were men. “The mandal parishad development officer will arrange a polling booth each in Machilipatnam and Gudivada. One at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada and SRR Boys’ High School in Nuzvid,” he said.
The ZPTCs, MPTCs, corporators, councillors and nagar panchayat ward members will be the voters and as per rules, they should produce their Aadhaar number to exercise their franchise, as Voter ID cards were already linked with Aadhaar. “In the district, there are 92 permanent Aadhaar registration centers and the voters who don’t have Aadhaar cards should immediately register their names at these centers to cast vote. As per EC rules, new schemes would not be announced and there would be no permissions for political meetings. However, ‘Janmabhoomi - Maa Vooru’ programmes can be conducted,” Babu said.
The last date for filing nominations is June 16, while nomination verification will be held on June 17 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is June 19. Polling will be held on July 3 and counting of votes on July 7.
In Prakasam district, three polling booths will be set up for MLC elections at Kandukur, mandal parishad office in Marripudi and mandal parishad office in Mahila Mandali Bhavan in Ongole, said Prakasam district joint collector M Hari Jawaharlal said at a meeting held in Ongole.
Prakasam collector Sujatha Sharma said that the election code will be in effect on June 9 and 10 during which political meetings and announcement of new schemes will not be allowed.
