8173 - EC clarified that non-furnishing of Aadhaar number will not be a ground for rejection of application - Day and night news

Tuesday, June 23, 2015, Chandigarh: The Election Commission of India has clarified that non-furnishing of Aadhaar number will not be a ground for rejection of application or objection against an application for new enrollment. Apart from this, no electoral service will be denied to any elector on the ground of non furnishing of Aadhaar number.

While stating this here today, Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana Mr Shrikant Walgad said that similarly non-furnishing of Aadhaar number would not be a ground for deletion of name of an existing elector from the electoral roll.

He said that furnishing of Aadhaar number is not mandatory and is optional and may be furnished voluntarily. Collection of Aadhaar number is only for the purpose of authentication of details of electors and confidentiality and security of data would be ensured during the process of feeding and seeding.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that Aadhaar number of an elector would not be displayed or reflected in electoral roll or Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) or voter slips or shown in digitized form on website for public scrutiny or in any other document of the Commission, shareable with public or put in public domain. He said that it would be ensured that Aadhaar database is not misused under any condition.
