To check unauthorised absence and non-punctuality of doctors and other staff in hospitals, the city administration is contemplating putting in place an Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance system in all the government hospitals following complaints that doctors and medical staff were not reporting for duty on time. An official said that to ensure punctuality of the doctors and staff in all hospitals, the Kejriwal government was mulling putting into place an Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance system. “Of late, we have received complaints about doctors, nurses and other paramedic staff not reporting for duty on time. This will make the staff accountable and even contractual employees, including security guards, will have to log on to this system.” Taking a serious view of the matter, the city’s health department under health minister Satyendar Jain has also issued a circular to all the medical superintendents and directors of the government-run hospitals to strictly enforce punctuality of all the staff in the hospitals. “It has come to the notice of the health minister that some doctors and staff are reporting late in OPDs and patient service areas in the hospitals.”
“All medical superintendents/directors/head of medical institutions of all Delhi government hospitals, dispensaries and autonomous organisations under health department are hereby requested to strictly enforce punctuality of all staff in the hospitals,” the communiqué added.
The Delhi government had previously also planned to introduce fingerprint-based biometric system in the government hospitals in the national capital, but the doctors had opposed the move, stating that the introduction of the biometric system would rip away the much-needed flexibility and reduce them to drones.
