COIMBATORE: More than 100 people from Mettupalayam and surrounding areas blocked the Mettupalayam — Sathyamangalam road for 15 minutes on Monday, to protest against the delay taking photos for the Aadhaar card.
Initially, the public approached Mettupalayam taluk officials who were not very responsive.
The protestors were pacified after they were assured that their picture would be taken on Tuesday.
A group of people from various villages under Mettupalayam taluk had gone to the Aadhaar card centre located inside the taluk office campus on Monday morning.
More than 100 people had been waiting in queue from 7am.
The centre generally issued 60 tokens in the morning and had their picture taken by the end of the day.
However, when the centre had not opened even after 10am, they notified the taluk officials who failed to take any action. Angry about their apathy, the protestors staged a road block on the Mettupalayam — Sathyamangalam road for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, taluk officials and Mettupalayam police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the crowd.
They dispersed after they were assured that their picture would be taken on Tuesday. Traffic was affected for 15 minutes due to the protest.
