8466 - AADHAAR CARD NOT ACCEPTED AS ID PROOF - The Hindu

Sometime ago, when my grandson wanted to open an SB account in the Central Bank of India, Kamalanagar branch, Vanasthalipuram, he was asked to submit his driving licence, telephone bill, electricity bill, etc., along with the filled in application form as a proof of residence and date of birth. He informed the concerned in the bank that he has got only Aadhaar card to submit as ID proof. This was not accepted as the system does not accept it. Finally, he was asked to submit SSC certificate which he did and the account was opened. In my case, I wanted to change the residential address in my PAN card and I was directed to a financial company at Dilsukhnagar for the purpose. When I enquired, I was asked to submit my driving licence, SSC certificate or election card along with the application. I said I was a retired Central government employee and cannot submit my SSC certificate at this stage. I have, however, said that I will submit the Aadhaar card or the ID card issued by the concerned Ministry of the Government of India, which is authenticated as a proof of residence. They did not agree. The Government of India introduced Aadhaar card and made its possession mandatory and GHMC is linking it to the election card. So, why is this not being accepted in various offices?
