BENGALURU: The High Court on Friday issued a notice to the state and the central governments and both the state and central election commissions in connection with a PIL seeking directions to issue ‘Single Smart SIM Identity Cards’ to all citizens.

A division bench of officiating Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice B V Nagarathna was hearing the petition filed by K S Adishesha Gupta, ex-municipal councillor and a resident of Madhugiri in Tumakuru.

Advocate Harish argued that there was no unique ID cards. In the country, there are cards such as Aadhaar, BPL, EPIC, Family Card and Health Card, he said. The representation submitted in this regard was not considered by the respondents. If a unique ID is issued, registration of assets of every citizen and increased voting are among the many possibilities, he said.
