8518 - Questions on Aadhaar - The Hindu

Questions on Aadhaar

My experience as a non-resident of over two decades has been unsatisfactory as far as identification procedures in India are concerned (“Choice, identity and privacy,” Aug. 13). I had a sour experience while waiting for PAN cards and Aadhaar when they were introduced, as confusion prevailed for long over whether NRIs were eligible for them. It was horrifying when my passport was not accepted as identity proof while I applied for Aadhaar. Issues of security when it comes to biometric applications haunt the entire world, and India is no exception.

One question that arises is: why does not Aadhaar have full parliamentary approval despite enjoying official sanction.
Finally, I can’t understand why so many identity proofs are required.
