State to launch Smart Pulse Survey

To collect socio-economic data and to update basic Aadhaar data

Andhra Pradesh which has close to 95 per cent of its population enrolled under Aadhaar with unique identification number will soon be taking up a Smart Pulse Survey to add the socio-economic data of individuals too. What the State has now is the State Resident Data Hub (SRDH) in association with UIDAI which provides basic demographic data – unique Aadhaar number, name, date of birth, gender, address, postal pin code, photo. The UIDAI will, however, not share biometric data but make it available for case- to- case online authentication.

But the Aadhaar database does not reflect the socio-economic data such as caste, community, education, income and livelihood details of a citizen, say IT department sources.

Therefore the smart pulse survey is planned to fill in the gaps related to socio-economic details and to create the Core People Hub which ultimately will become the key component for the proposed AP State Enterprise Architecture – a repository of the State’s data.

The goal of the government is to know not only the names of residents in the State but also their socio-economic status. Equipped with such information, government can plan, tailor and implement its programmes and welfare schemes accurately to suit the needs of beneficiaries and achieve desired outsomes, they explain. Many departments already started seeding of Aadhaar with their databases of beneficiaries. “Seeding is only the first step. Verification, cleaning and authentication of the data is important to rule out fake beneficiaries”, sources said.
