Aadhaar card work suspended
- STAFF REPORTER
As per a Supreme Court order issued on August 11, the district administration has directed all booth-level officers to suspend, with immediate effect, collection and feeding of Aadhaar numbers of voters and merging them with voter list for the National Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Programme.
Collector T.N. Hariharan said here on Monday that election officials started the Aadhaar card linking work on March 3.
It was taken up to avoid duplication of entries in the electoral roll. Election officials had collected Aadhaar number, mobile number, e-mail ID and address of 8,55,710 of the 16,57,623 voters in seven Assembly segments in the district (51.62 per cent) and linked them with the electoral roll.
However, other works such as poll roll purification, enrolment of new voters, deletion of names, changing address would continue. Similarly, issuing notices in case of duplication in electoral roll and removal of ineligible voters from the voter list would also continue, he said.
