BHUBANESWAR: Nearly one crore people do not have Aadhaar cards in Odisha. Minister of State for IT Pranab Prakash Das informed this in a written reply to a question from Dilip Ray (BJP) in the Assembly on Saturday. According to the 2011 census, population of Odisha is 4,19,74,218 out of which 3,84,87,647 are more than five years of age.
The Minister said those above five years of age can have Aadhaar cards and so far, 3,34,45,641 persons have registered for the card. Out of this, cards have been prepared in the name of 2,94,78,947 persons, he said and added that cards of 90,08,700 persons are yet to be prepared.
While 23 lakh Aadhaar cards have been prepared for people residing in Ganjam district which is highest in the State, 21 lakh cards have been prepared in Cuttack district. Similarly, 19 lakhs cards have been prepared in Khurda district while 17 lakh, 14 lakh and 13 lakh cards have been prepared in Balasore, Sundargarh and Puri districts respectively.
The Minister said 17 lakh cards have been prepared for Mayurbhanj district while more than 10 lakh cards have been prepared in Keonjhar, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Angul districts. More than 12 lakh cards have also been completed in Balangir district, he said and added that the lowest 2,39,433 cards have been prepared in Deogarh.
Das said more than 90 lakh Aadhaar cards will be distributed by November 15 in the State.
