PANCHKULA: A 98-year-old woman has not been receiving her pension for last three months as her Aadhaar card application had not been processed for last seven months.
Mantra Devi, a resident of Sector 12 A, had applied for the Aadhaar card at regional office in Chandigarh Sector 17, on February 4. She was assured it would reach within a month through registered post. Mantra Devi said, "Everyday I wait for the postman to come and deliver my Aadhaar card which will enable me to get my pension."
Mantra's son Vinod Kumar Sharma, 68, a retired government employee, visited the office in Sector 17 on various occasions but got no respite. He said senior officials in UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) office told him that this problem could be fixed by its head office in Bangalore only. Sharma said, "The pension comes in the bank account and bank officials are demanding Aadhaar card number to open an account."
V P Tyagi, deputy director, UIDAI, regional office, Chandigarh, said, "There are several reasons like closed eyes, improper uploading of data and problem in capturing of fingerprints might occur at the time of capturing data due to which one's Aadhaar gets struck." "I am out of town and will check the problem on Monday. It will be fixed soon," he added.
