A group of members of Akhila Indhiya Vivasaya Thozhilalar Sangam, on Monday, have urged the district administration not to demand production of “Aadhaar card” from villagers working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
In a petition to District Collector K.S. Palanisamy here on Monday, the residents from Mutharasanallur said the panchayat officials insisted on production of Aadhaar card before issuing identity cards under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
They said that although they had opted for the card, there was delay in issuing the same.

They said that the non-production of Aadhaar card would hinder the livelihood of the workers and pleaded with the district administration to direct the officials to accept other identity proof for offering jobs under the scheme.
