8844 - Plastic Aadhaar card now at your doorstep

Chennai : Tamilnadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited (TACTV) is conducting mobile camps in city to issue plastic Aadhaar card (smart card) to residents.

According to TACTV Managing Director J Kumaragurubaran the mobile service was launched on a trial basis in colleges in city. As many 3,331 plastic Aadhaar cards have been issued to students. Now, it is being extended to residents in their respective places. Residents can make use of it, instead of visiting Taluk offices.

Briefing about the  camp, a TACTV official said the government has handed over the work to them to issue smart card. 'We are covering around 500 people per day, where the plastic card is issued immediately.

Residents Welfare Associations or any other organisations can contact us for the smart card. They have to arrange at least 300 people per day. Though we come with a mobile van, it would be better if the association allots us a small room so that we can attend to many people,' he said.

Asked about the producure, the official said a resident has to bring his Aadhaar card. After taking finger print out, he/she would be issued a smart card. They have to pay Rs 30 per card.

For seniors or any one who is unable to come in person, they can send their card through their family member. The mobile number should have been printed in the card and member has to bring the phone of the card holder.

'We would call the card holder's number, where a one time password will be sent. We will use it as an identity (instead of fingerprint),' he said.
