9019 - House to House enumeration for National Population Register begins - Echo India

The house to house enumeration for the National Population Register (NPR) has begun in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands from today. The Hon’ble Lt Governor, Lt Gen A K Singh (Retd), was today enrolled under the National Population Register (NPR) at Raj Niwas. Shri Raajiv Yaduvanshi, Principal Secretary (Rev)/State Coordinator (NPR), Deputy Commissioner (SA), Shri Vijay Kumar Bidhuri and senior officials of the Revenue Department were present on the occasion.

The NPR is a flagship scheme of the Government of India, wherein updation of National Population Register (NPR) and seeding Aadhaar Number in NPR Database drive will be taken up through house to house enumeration by Designated Enumerators during 1st November to 30th November 2015, in the A&N Islands. 

The Deputy Commissioner (SA), while speaking to the media persons present on the occasion informed that house to house enrollment for NPR in the A&N Islands has commenced today and will continue upto 30th  November 2015. As many as 863 enumeration blocks have been set up across the Islands to cover the population of the Islands. He appealed to the general public to cooperate with the enumerators when they visit their houses by providing correct and detail information. He also requested the citizens to keep documents such as Islander’s Identity Card, Ration Card, EPIC, Aadhaar Card/EID acknowledgment to ensure proper updation of National Population Register. He further informed that the updating of NPR would provide an opportunity to all inhabitants of these islands to update/correct the information they have already provided, which is in a form of a book with the Revenue Department. It will also be an opportunity to all those people who have not yet been covered so far in this scheme, he said.

Earlier, the State Coordinator (NPR), Shri Yaduvanshi read out a message about the National Population Register (NPR) and appealed to all the inhabitants of these Islands, to participate in the exercise by giving correct and authentic information to the enumerators, when they visit their houses.
