Bijnor: To bring transparency, the Centre has directed all gas connection holders to link their Aadhaar cards with their respective banks by the end of this year, failing which they would not be eligible to avail subsidy.
The notice issued by the government has put consumers not possessing Aadhaar cards in a quandary.
Discussing the issue, Nisha Raghav, owner of BSN gas agency, said each cylinder costs Rs 591.50 and the subsidy on the cylinder is Rs 149.50. The subsidy is deposited in the consumer's account.
There are 31 gas agencies in Bijnor district which cater to 3.5 lakh consumers. The government provides subsidy on the basis of forms filled up by consumers to avail Direct Benefits Transfer for LPG (DBTL). |
Last year, consumers were asked to fill up DBTL forms and get their Aadhaar cards linked with banks and the respective agency. Though most of the consumers filled up the forms, only 40% got their Aadhaar cards linked with the banks.
Even as consumers continue to avail subsidy based on the DBTL forms, this time around, the government has made linking of Aadhaar cards mandatory.
Raghav told TOI that only 40% consumers had got their Aadhaar cards linked with the agency and respective banks.
