Camps for getting copies of lost documents

They will be organised for two weeks from December 14 at taluk offices, schools and colleges.

The State government and other Central agencies have announced special camps to help people who had lost important documents like ration cards, land pattas, educational certificates, LPG connection cards, Aadhaar cards, Electors Photo ID Cards (EPIC), bank passbooks, passports and so on.

In a statement here, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said copies of ration cards were being issued to those who had lost them in the floods. Special camps would also be organised for two weeks from December 14 at taluk offices and schools and colleges for issuing copies of important documents and educational certificates.

Officials of various State government departments and from agencies of the Central government would receive applications at these camps and issue a copy of the documents free of cost within a week. Besides these camps, people could also approach public service centres to apply for copies of the documents.
“All copies of documents regarding property and land applied for, received and issued in these camps would be considered original documents under Section 57 (5) of the Registration Act, 1908,” the Chief Minister stated.

Likewise, the Registration Certificate (R.C. books) of several auto drivers and many others lost in the floods would also be issued. Meanwhile, the police have already started receiving complaints from people in Perambur and have been instantly issuing CSR receipts.

The Election Commission of India too has extended the time for disposal of claims and objections in electoral rolls up to December 20. The date of final publication of electoral roll has been extended from January 11 to 20. The extension of date followed requests from District Electoral Officers, who cited heavy rains, a release from the Chief Electoral Officer stated.

Aadhaar cards
Aadhaar cards could be downloaded from the official website www.uidai.gov.in., said M.R.V. Krishna Raso, Census Operations Joint Director. “You can download your Aadhaar card by feeding your Aadhaar number.”

Asked how those who do not know the number can get their cards, he said: “We are working on it. We will find a way because these numbers are given from an office in Bengaluru. We will soon find a way for it.”
