Kolhapur: Taking a cue from Union minister Maneka Gandhi's suggestion that sex determination tests should be mandatory during pregnancy, the city's medical fraternity has come up with the idea of tracking every pregnancy through the unique identification using sonography. The proposal suggests that a unique registration number with the state, district and village can be given to the foetus during the third month of the pregnancy. Parents would have to produce the same number while registering the birth of baby and getting the birth certificate from the government agencies.Doctors from Kolhapur are drafting the concept and are planning to give it to the Centre for implementation. They had submitted a similar proposal to the state government seven years ago, but it was never considered.Ajit Patil, vice president of Kolhapur Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society, said the organisation is busy in preparing the proposal.
