An outpatient registration service (ORS) portal was launched at the Malabar Cancer Centre (MCC) at Thalassery on the World Cancer Day on Thursday.
The ORS for an appointment in government hospitals was launched by the Central government as part of the Digital India initiative in the health sector. The MCC is the first hospital in the State to provide the online OPD registration using the portal, National Informatics Centre (NIC) officials informed. Patient or his/her attendant can get the online OPD appointment by visiting the website (http://ors.gov.in) or using the link provided by the portal of respective hospital. The advantage of the system is that patients can avoid long queues at the hospital for seeking OP appointment/registration, they said.
The ORS at the MCC was inaugurated by NIC State Informatics Officer T. Mohana Dhas. MCC Director B. Satheesan was present. Ranjith M.K., system manager, explained the system. NIC officials V.T. Santhosh, Nilkamal De Purkayatha, and Andrews Varghese, and Ashish Benz of the MCC were also present.
The online registration system is linked with the Aadhaar number, the NIC officials said. If the Addhaar number and mobile phone number of the patient are registered with the Unique Identification Authority of India, then a one-time PIN will be texted to the phone and the Aadhaar holder has to give consent to share his/her know your customer data as stored in the UIDAI with the hospital for taking appointment.
