Additional Deputy Commissioner T. Venkatesh has said that Aadhaar enrolment is free, and has appealed to the people not to pay fees for it and to inform the police or the district administration if any agency or person approaches them for Aadhaar enrolment.
There are a number of complaints coming in from some parts of Mysuru that Rs. 200 to Rs. 500 is being charged for enrolment at the doorstep.
The district administration which has received such complaints, particularly from Hootagalli area in the city, has not only filed a case with the police, but is also probing the agency that is collecting money for enrolment.
The tahsildar of Mysuru has registered such a complaint with the Vijayanagar policeT. Venkatesh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, told The Hindu that the district administration has not authorised any agency to go door-to-door for Aadhaar enrolment
Enrolment is being done in all the 37 nada kacheris across the district, the ADC said, and appealed to the people to go there. He said enrolment would also be done at the Atalji Janasnehi Kendras and in schools for schoolchildren. He said the alleged scam was being probed by the district administration.
Over 97 per cent of Aadhaar enrolment has been done in Mysuru, he said, adding that of the 72,000 targeted children, 30 per cent have been covered with the help of Block Education Officers. The district administration has instructed the BEOs to expedite enrolment and complete it by March 15.
