Will the Minister of Communications & Information Technology be pleased to state: -
  1. (a)  the number of companies that have applied for the Aadhaar authentication service and the details thereof;
  2. (b)  whether the Government has formed a Constitutional bench on privacy following the Supreme Court directives to restrict the use of Aadhaar to five to six welfare schemes amid concerns of privacy; and
(c) if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER
MINISTER FOR COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI RAVI SHANKAR PRASAD)
(a): 354 entities have applied and have been approved for Aadhaar Authentication Services. Of these, 212 entities have set up their infrastructure system and have been provided access for use of the Aadhaar Authentication Services for their applications. The other 142 entities are in the process of setting up their infrastructure for integration with the Aadhaar platform. Out of 212 entities availing Aadhaar Authentication Services, 134 are also providing Aadhaar based e- KYC services to the residents.
(b) and (c): The Hon’ble Supreme Court vide its notice dated 22ndJanuary 2016 has notified that Aadhaar matters are to be heard by Constitution Bench of five Hon’ble judges.
