Newborn babies will soon have Aadhaar cards as the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has successfully tested a software, integrating registration of births with enrolment of Aadhaar card.
An UIADI team from Hyderabad visited the Government General Hospital here and tested the software — Child Enrolment Client.
Usually, the Civil Registration System data of birth and death registrations from municipalities and panchayats is sent to the Registrar-General of India (RGI). Enrolment for Aadhaar cards is done separately at the designated centres.
Under the new system, the UIDAI can source the Birth Registration Data (BRD) from the RGI to generate an Aadhaar card.
The process begins at the hospital, where details of date of birth, sex, and parents are registered along with enrolment for Aadhaar card. The data is then sourced through the software. An UID enrolment number is generated and sent to the mobile number of the parents. The birth registration certificate would also have the UID number along with the registration number.
After 21 days, when the baby is given a name, the Aadhaar card could be generated through the local Mee Seva centre.
“We have tested the software at the GGH and found it successful. We will soon pilot the project across the State in all hospitals,” said Kulwant Singh Chauhan of the UIDAI, Hyderabad.
