HYDERABAD: As many as 400 professors have been blacklisted by the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University - Hyderabad (JNTU-H) for fraudulently registering as faculty in more than one college.
As per the university’s affiliation regulations and the recommendations of standing committee on affiliation, JNTU made this decision and made the list public by placing it on university’s website on Friday night.
Speaking to Express, Dr N Yadaiah, Registrar of JNTUH, said that legal action would be taken against the erring professors. ‘’We have noticed that 400 professors, working in various colleges across the state, have registered themselves in more than one college. This is against section 11.9.1b, 12.9 of the affiliation regulation of JNTU-H. We have blacklisted them and issued show cause notice. Legal action will be initiated against all concerned in due course of time,” he revealed.
HOW WERE THEY TRACKED?
Aasked how the university tracked down these professors, the registrar said they used the PAN (Permanent Account Number) and Aadhaar card to collect details. “During inspection of colleges, we have noticed that some of the professors are serving in more than one college. To verify the same we have used their PAN and Aadhaar number. They would be given a chance to defend their case and based on the recommendation of the standing committee, necessary action would be taken,” he added.
The list released by the JNTU contained names of 903 professors. However, if the repeated names are excluded, the number comes down to 400.
“If one sees the list, it can be noticed that some of the names are listed twice or thrice. This shows that professors are working in more than one college. So, the total number of professors blacklisted are 400,” the registrar said.
It is worth noting that JNTU has blacklisted 21 professors in April for the same reason.
