Panaji: Over three lakh people of the state have been availing various social welfare schemes run by the state government.
Besides this, Goa Electronic Limited (GEL) has received applications from one lakh families to avail the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seve Yojana (DDSSY). Goa has a population of around 14 lakh.

There are around 1,49,152 Griha Aadhaar beneficiaries; 41,630 Ladli Laxmi beneficiaries; 1,39,896 Dayanand Social Security Scheme beneficiaries, while 70,000 persons have benefited from the scheme constituted for mining-affected people. Speaking to mediapersons, GEL chairperson Dattaprasad Naik said that they have distributed around 2.60 lakh forms for the DDSSY scheme. "We have already distributed DDSSY scheme cards to around 5,000 families," he said, adding further that they have a capacity to distribute 250 cards per centre and there are around 17 such centres. He also requested the applicants to come on the same date, when they receive a SMS to collect their cards to avoid any inconvenience. Naik said that if any person fails to collect the card on the date specified in the message, then GEL will once again send the message with a new date to collect the card.

Naik also said that GEL has conducted around 195 camps in the villages to facilitate the registration of beneficiaries under the scheme. GEL has received the highest number of applications under DDSSY from Bardez taluka, followed by Salcete and Bicholim. Naik said that they have received the highest number of applications for DDSSY from Sanguem constituency, followed by Canacona, Quepem and Sakhali.

While processing DDSSY applications, GEL has encountered that there are few bedridden people in the state who do not have an Aadhaar card which is necessary to avail DDSSY scheme.

Naik said GEL has also got permission from the government to take an Aadhar mobile unit to those bedridden people to make their Aadhar card so that they are not deprived from the scheme. As Aadhaar cards are also made for school children, GEL will also start to issue Aadhaar cards to the students. "From September 2016 onwards, we are planning to start camps in all schools to enrolment of aadhaar card across the state. In the first phase, enrolment would be done in six talukas," he added.
