Considering the increasing importance of Aadhaar, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has now introduced a blue coloured 'Baal Aadhaar' card for children below the age of 5 years. To recall all children below the age of 5 don't need to give biometric details for getting an Aadhaar card.
UIDAI took to its official Twitter handle to tweet that a blue coloured Baal Aadhaar will be issued to children below 5 years and when the child does become 5, then he/she has to submit biometric authentication. Failing to do so within the next 7 years would result in suspension of the Aadhaar card. Though there is no compulsion to register for Aadhaar at such a young age, it will be required to be eligible for overseas education or to get government scholarships, according to a Times Now report.
A child below 5 years of age gets a blue in coloured Aadhaar known as Baal Aadhaar. When the child becomes 5 yr old, a mandatory biometric update is required. #AadhaarForMyChild
As per the report, to register for Baal Aadhaar, visit your nearest enrolment centre and fill out the required forms. As mentioned earlier no biometric data will be collected from your child, however, you are needed to carry a photo of him/her. The Baal Aadhaar will be linked with his/her parent's UID. A biometric update is mandatory at age 5, at age 10 and again at age 15. If your child is above the age of 5, then you have to carry the child's birth certificate and valid school ID.
