According to the government's top lawyer, Attorney General KK Venugopal, Aadhaar data is secure behind 13-foot high, 5-foot thick walls. He assured the five-judge constitutional bench in the Supreme Court that biometric data taken from millions of Indians is kept safe in a complex in Manesar, near Delhi. The Centre has also assured the Supreme Court that Aadhaar is far from a "fly-by-night effort to score some brownie points" and that it is a serious scheme to put an end to corruption.
The apex court is hearing petitions questioning the privacy of data taken for the unique ID system.
