Dhubri: Dhubri police on Thursday arrested a woman from on charges of using fake legacy data of others and hiding her original identity.
Aisha Bibi, wife of Samsul Houqe, claimed to be a resident of Dighaltari village under Agomoni police station, and tried to include her name in National Register of Citizens (NRC) by using the legacy data of Fazal Ali Seikh, a resident of Powercharra village, and saying he was her father.
Fazal Ali Seikh had received a notice for verification of his family tree from the NRC centre located at Satrasal. Seikh refused to identify her at the NRC centre on Thursday.
NRC officials then conducted an investigation. Senior NRC official Baharul Islam, including the circle officer of Agomoni S. Gharphalia and Agomoni police SHO Dipak Das began the investigation.
Finally, Aisha Khatun confessed to being a Hindu girl and a resident of Jaipur in Rajasthan. She confessed that her original name was Bhagirathi Saini, the daughter of Shankar Lal Saini, a resident of Rambag near Birla Mandir of Jaipur. She got married to Samsul Houqe six years ago during his stay at a worker in Rajasthan.
She had also obtained an Aadhaar card and other documents with her fake identity.
"We had registered a case bearing number 122/2018 under relevant sections of IPC. We also arrested the accused woman on the spot based on the complaint lodged by the NRC centre in-charge, Kantaram Rohenge," said the officer in-charge of Agomoni police station.
