TUMKUR: More centres with a better power supply and infrastructure will be set up for the enrolment of residents to issue them 12-digit unique number under the UIDAI’s ‘Aadhaar’ project in Tumkur.
It was decided at the progress review meeting which was held at the deputy commissioner’s office under the chairmanship of principal secretary of e-governance MN Vidyashankar here on Wednesday.
Besides the three working centres, six more centres with 18 stations will be set up by November 6.
While six centres per taluk will be set up in Chikkanayakanahalli, Sira, Koratagere and Pavagada taluks by October 22 and the respective MLAs would launch the project on October 23.
Every day, the tokens will be issued in the morning and WIPRO, the nodal agency which is implementing the project in Tumkur, will ensure that all the people having tokens are enrolled on the same day irrespective of time schedule.
DC C Somashekar informed TNIE that the administration has a plan to set up the enrolment stations in all the 35 wards in Tumkur City Corporation limits.
Steps would be taken to increase the rate of enrolment at all the three existing centres, he added.
The BESCOM executive engineer was asked to provide suitable infrastructure while WIPRO will make its own arrangements for the back up in case of power disruption, he clarified.
The strategy has been chalked out for the rural areas which includes sensitising the local people representatives, block education officers, head masters in schools and also members of the SHGs to create awareness among the public.
The ration card is made a mandatory document for the identification for the enrolment and if the residents do not have them, they need to be introduced through the village accountants and the gram panchayat secretaries-who are designated as official introducers.
The project was launched in the district on October 8 and as on October 19 as many as 4,797 people have been enrolled including around 2,000 in Tumkur city.
ZP CEO Tulasi Maddineni, CEO for Centre for e-governance Dr DS Ravindran, PRO Prabhakar, DC’s HQA and nodal officer for Tumkur Dodappa and district level officers including assistant commissioners also took part in the meeting.
