4459 - State split changes your Aadhaar card - Deccan chronicle

DC | 13 hours 2 min ago

Hyderabad: The decision to bifurcate the state has been giving anxious moments to Aadhaar officials. Aadhaar cards have been issued to nearly 6.7 crore people in the state so far.

The state is set to achieve 100 per cent Aadhaar enrolment within two months.  UIDAI officials have collected Aadhaar data state-wise on the basis of pincodes. Bifurcation would mean setting up two new states with new pincodes.

However, officials said there is no need for re-enrolment for Aadhaar cards in new states. They need to issue only revised Aadhaar cards. The 12-digit unique Aadhaar numbers will  remain the same even after bifurcation, but people need to obtain revised cards with changed state names.

“For deciding uniqueness of an individual,  demographic details such as residential address etc. and his/her biometric information such as photograph, iris-scan, fingerprints etc. have been collected. All of it has been stored in a centralised database. The 12-digit Aadhaar number based on this data will continue to remain the same forever,” said M.V.S. Rami Reddy, deputy director general, UIDAI-AP.

More delay in counselling
There is very little hope of commencing counselling for professional courses in the near future, due to the volatile situation in Seemandhra region. Half of the total 60 counselling centres are located in Seemandhra and the staff too are boycotting their duties, demanding a united AP.

Counselling schedules for Eamcet engineering/B.Pharm, Icet (MBA/MCA), Edcet (B.Ed), Lawcet (law courses) etc. have been kept on hold. Only medical/dental courses have been spared.

The AP State Council of Higher Education on Monday wrote to the government seeking ‘guidance’ on how to proceed in this issue. As per the original schedule, the three rounds of counselling should have been completed by July 31, but not even the first round has been initiated so far. Officials tried to commence MBA/MCA counselling this week, but that too was put on hold.
