4972 - Woes galore to update Aadhaar, but UIDAI officials say it is easy - Deccan Herald

Smriti Sharma Vasudeva Bangalore: Nov 26, 2013 DHNS

R C Sharma, 77, moved into a new house on Old Madras Road from Ejipura recently and thought of getting the address changed on his Aadhaar card. However, it turned out to be an uphill task as even after visiting the nearby enrolment centre, he was unable to get the changes done. Worse, he was not even guided adequately on how to go about it.

“I went to the enrolment centre to get the details updated twice, but each time I was given an excuse and nobody could help in getting the details updated,” said an aggrieved Sharma.

His case is not the only one as there are several others like him who want to get the details on the Aadhaar changed and updated, but are clueless on how it can be done.
Sunitha, a resident of Indiranagar, had a similar problem. Her name in the card was wrongly spelt. She was unable to use the UIDAI card for any purpose. She too has no clue as to how it can be rectified. Sunitha visited a nearby enrolment centre, but it was not of any use.

On the other hand, officials of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) say that getting an update done is very easy and can be done either online by uploading all the documents and filling in the necessary columns or by physically going to the Regional Office and handing over the documents.

“It is not difficult to get the changes made in the UIDAI card. But we do understand that many people may not be fully aware of the process. We are in the process of starting a campaign to create awareness about the same within a week through digital, print and radio campaigns.”

As per a senior official of UIDAI, any resident can also get his/her name, address, mobile number and date of birth changed by sending by post a filled-in correction form along with relevant documents to the concerned regional office.

In addition to this, the residents can visit the permanent enrolment centres in the City, where they can also get their biometrics changed if required.

However, for getting the demographics changed, the residents will have to shell out Rs 15. The residents are required to self attest the documents required for proof of residence and proof of identity, in case of getting the address changed.
