Confusion over enrolment procedures to obtain Aadhaar card led to chaos at the office of Directorate of Census Operations (DCO) here for last two days.

People from all over the State have been flocking the office to get the forms for Aadhaar enrolment. The form, which will generate the Aadhaar number, is the first step of the enrolment process. The bio-metric data is collected against the Aadhaar number generated through the form.

A senior DCO official said people need to wait for the Permanent Enrolment Centres to open and not come to the Census office for the forms as it is leading to chaos. The distribution of forms at the Census office was a temporary arrangement to cater to a specific section of population, said the officials. This is not the first time that people have been left in the dark about enrolment procedure for Aadhaar card. Because of poor publicity about enrolment process, a large chunk of the population has missed out on the second phase of bio-metric data collection drive.
However, with deadline for Aadhaar linked domestic LPG subsidy nearing, people are anxious to get the enrolment process done.

After biometric data is collected, it will be processed by Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDAI). But there is no time limit as to how soon the card will be generated.
