Aadhaar card should be basis for fee reimbursement, says PCC chief

Dubbing as “unconstitutional”, the Financial Assistance to Students of Telangana (FAST) announced by the Telangana government, Andhra Pradesh Congress president N. Raghuveera Reddy on Monday said that Aadhaar card should be the basis for fee reimbursement for both Andhra and Telangana students.

The Telangana government promulgating an order to restrict fee reimbursement only to those students whose parents were bona fide residents of Telangana State as on November 1, 1956, was in ‘total violation’ of the AP State Reorganisation Act, he told a press conference here.

“The act provides for joint admissions for 10 years and nothing should be done to upset the status quo,” he added.

“The 1956 cut-off is impractical. The FAST is not only against the interest of Andhra students but also against Telangana students as there are no revenue records to decide on this aspect,” opined the former Revenue Minister.

He exhorted the two governments to start admissions for professional courses without any further delay in the larger interests of students.

He accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his Telangana counterpart K. Chandrasekhar Rao of resorting to political one-upmanship at the cost of students future to cover up their waning popularity by whipping up sentiments.
