Aizawl, Oct 17 (Mizonews.Net): Biometric Census for National Population Register continues in Mizoram in connection of which General Administration Department organised Biometric Enrolment camp for top state government officials for two days during October 16-17, 2014 at New Secretariat here in the State capital Aizawl.
Technicians from Electronic Corporation of India Ltd, Hyderabad did eye scanning and fingerprinting of the ministers, chief secretary and other secretaries during the enrolment camp.
Biometric enrolment was done for ministers – Lalsawta, Zodintluanga, PC Lalthanliana, Dr BD Chakma, Parliamentary Secretaries – H.Zothangliana, KS Thanga, Hmingdailova Khiangte, Joseph Lalhimpuia, Lt.Col ZS Zuala, K Lalrinthanga besides Chief Secretary L.Tochhong and a number of Commissioners/Secretaries on the second and last day of the camp today.
As has been reported, National Population Register was launched in 2011 for all the citizens of India for which every citizen who have resided in one place or other in any part of India for a period of six months or those who will stay in that particular place not more than six months are all to be identified.
Among other things, NPR will record biodata of the citizens, which has been done in the State along Census 2011. The other identification- biometric detail of every individual is the ongoing Biometric enrolment and which is done through iris scanning and fingerprinting.
The collected information shall be submitted to Unique Identification Authority of India which will allot Aadhar Card (smart card) to the citizens.
Biometric Enrolment is simultaneously carried out in districts of the State. Prime Minister has directed to complete the same by December 20.
Each individual will be allotted one Aadhar card/number and no two persons will have the same card number which will protect one from fraud and forgery.
Aadhaar card can be used for opening of bank account, for booking ticket online, and for application of passport.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has on September 2013 issued interim order according to which even without Aadhaar card one can avail the benefits from the government; only that things will be easier in many ways for card holders.
