District Collector Babu. A will make a presentation on linking of Aadhaar card number and voter identification (ID) card, at a high level workshop scheduled to be held at Hyderabad on February 14. Chief Electoral Officer, Information Technology Director and others will take part in the workshop.
Mr. Babu implemented the new system in East Godavari district while he served there as Joint Collector. The voter ID cards were linked with the Aadhaar card number during bye elections. Later, the system was implemented in pilot basis in 15 polling stations in Hyderabad. As much as 35 percent bogus voters were identified in the process.
The new system will help in identifying the people with multiple voter ID cards. The voter would have to register his or her details with polling booth level officer by producing Aadhaar card and voter ID card details. The data thus provided would have to be certified by booth level officer and electoral registration officer. The voters can register their names through online, from a call centre, or by sending an SMS.
Mr. Babu said that the project was successful in Hyderabad.
