Srinagar: Process for capturing of biometrics in Srinagar city is about to begin.

This was disclosed in a meeting Wednesday held under the chairmanship of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. GN Qasba. The meeting was attended by the Joint Director Census operations Mr Saproo, Joint Commissioner (Adm.), Secretary SMC (Nodal Officer SMC), all Zonal Officers, Charge Officers, Ward Officers (Local Citizen Registration Authority) and representatives of the ECIL.

“Saproo through a power point presentation explained the aims and objective of the completion of National Population Register which will form the basis for generation of a smart card commonly known as Aadhaar card compulsorily required for every citizen for implementation of DBTL,” an SMC handout said.

“In the meeting it was enjoined upon all the ward officers, charges officers to mobilize the Supervisors/Enumerators who have made the Abridged House List/NPR in the first Phase of Census 2010. Similarly the citizens of Srinagar city shall have to be informed about the procedure and necessity of the capturing of biometrics for completion of NPR,” it said.

“Personnel from the Census Department shall impart necessary training to the Supervisors/Enumerators from February 20. Initially 11 permanent registration centers would be established by the Census Department at Community Facilitation Centers of SMC to facilitate the family heads/ ration card holders for preparation of Adhaar required for DBTL so that direct cash transaction in shape of subsidy on gas would be ensured in their bank accounts in the first instance,” the handout added.
