HYDERABAD: Justice Reddy Kantha Rao of the Hyderabad high court has directed the AP government to explain its stand on a plea that questioned AP's decision to bring in Aadhaar-enabled public distribution system in all fair price shops in the state.

The judge was dealing with a petition filed by G Venkateswarlu Goud of AP Chowka Dharala Dukaanadarula Sanghaala Samkshema Samakhya challenging the government's decision to implement computerised PDS in the state. Senior counsel A Satya Prasad, appearing for the petitioner federation, contended that the government's proposal to implement the above system as contrary to the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and AP state public distribution system (Control) Order, 2008.

Hearing on HC bifurcation put off to next week: A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice Sanjay Kumar of the Hyderabad high court on Monday posted to next week the hearing of a PIL challenging the delay in constitution of separate high courts for the states of Telangana and AP under Article 214 of the Constitution read with section 32 of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2015. T Dhangopal Rao, a practicing advocate of the high court, said that the Union law minister had announced that the delay in division of high court was due to non-concurrence of chief ministers of AP and Telangana, which is required for the bifurcation of the existing high court. In this regard, the chief minister of Telangana had expressed his readiness to shift the Telangana high court to new premises within 24 hours of its bifurcation, the petitioner said.
