The new BJP members will have to tell their caste, the “area of interest”, and whether they belong to the minority community, as per a proforma being distributed during the party’s Mahasampark Abhiyan that began in Awadh and Kashi regions Sunday.

As part of the Abhiyan, a door-to-door campaign, the BJP workers will approach around 1.8 crore new members in Uttar Pradesh and get the proforma filled by them.

In the column under the head “social category”, the new members will have to disclose whether if they belong to general category, OBC, SC/ST or minority community.

Prakash Sharma, party state vice-president, who launched the campaign in Mughalsarai with party national joint general secretary (organsiation) Shiv Prakash, said BJP wants to reach people from every caste and community. “These details would help the party reach them,” he said.

“The data will be helpful for the party in selecting nominees and deploying leaders for select areas during elections,” said another party leader.

The primary members will also have to give their Aadhaar and Electors Photo Identity Card numbers and disclose if they have opened savings account in banks under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. Home Minister Rajnath Singh launched the campaign in Lucknow.
