PANJIM: Nearly 50,000 families having at least one member in government service will be barred from availing benefits under the health insurance scheme – Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana – set to be launched on May 30. Nearly 3.50 lakh families will be covered under the scheme.

Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health Francis D’Souza told Herald that nearly 50,000 families having a member in government service will be excluded from the scheme benefits as they are covered under a reimbursement of medical expenses scheme. “Government servants already enjoy the reimbursement benefit. They will not be included,” he said.
The government will set up information centres in all talukas and at the village level. “Aadhaar card will be the prime document for data collection. Goa has 96 percent Aadhaar enrolment,” D’Souza said.
A three-member family would have to pay an annual charge of Rs 200 for a medical card, while a family with four and more members would have to shell out Rs 300. Backward communities like ST, SC and OBC would be excluded from this payment.
“We have decided to launch the scheme on May 30 but it will be operational from August 15. The process of making cards will take some time, hence we will start the registration from May end,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
United India Insurance Company limited has been awarded the tender for implementing the health insurance scheme, which will be fully operational from August 15. T he government will pay the company Rs 120 crore, and it has in turn offered a package of Rs 3263.25 per family. A total of 447 different ailments, including diabetes, will be covered.

The insurance cover will be up to Rs 2.5 lakh per annum for a family of three or less members and up to Rs 4 lakh for a family of four and more.
