In 2009, I became extremely concerned with the concept of Unique Identity for various reasons. Connected with many like minded highly educated people who were all concerned.

On 18th May 2010, I started this Blog to capture anything and everything I came across on the topic. This blog with its million hits is a testament to my concerns about loss of privacy and fear of the ID being misused and possible Criminal activities it could lead to.

In 2017 the Supreme Court of India gave its verdict after one of the longest hearings on any issue. I did my bit and appealed to the Supreme Court Judges too through an On Line Petition.

In 2019 the Aadhaar Legislation has been revised and passed by the two houses of the Parliament of India making it Legal. I am no Legal Eagle so my Opinion carries no weight except with people opposed to the very concept.

In 2019, this Blog now just captures on a Daily Basis list of Articles Published on anything to do with Aadhaar as obtained from Daily Google Searches and nothing more. Cannot burn the midnight candle any longer.

Legal scholar Usha Ramanathan describes UID as an inverse of sunshine laws like the Right to Information. While the RTI makes the state transparent to the citizen, the UID does the inverse: it makes the citizen transparent to the state, she says.

Good idea gone bad
I have written earlier that UID/Aadhaar was a poorly designed, unreliable and expensive solution to the really good idea of providing national identification for over a billion Indians. My petition contends that UID in its current form violates the right to privacy of a citizen, guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution. This is because sensitive biometric and demographic information of citizens are with enrolment agencies, registrars and sub-registrars who have no legal liability for any misuse of this data. This petition has opened up the larger discussion on privacy rights for Indians. The current Article 21 interpretation by the Supreme Court was done decades ago, before the advent of internet and today’s technology and all the new privacy challenges that have arisen as a consequence.

Had never thought of it that way, but living in the Aadhaar universe is like living in a prison. All of us are treated like criminals with barely any rights or recourse and gatekeepers have absolute power on you and your life.

94,440 petitions received under Mee Intiki Mee Bhoomi disposed of, K.E. Krishnamurthy says

The Chandrababu Naidu government has been implementing revenue reforms in the last two years and uploading land details of farmers online to avert the scope for disputes, Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishnamurthy said on Tuesday.

Addressing the media here, he said 94,440 petitions were disposed off out of 1,07,438 petitions received under the ‘Mee Intiki Mee Bhoomi’ programme. Of them, 12,998 petitions were rejected owing to court cases and disparities in survey numbers and other reasons.

Aadhaar seeding

The land data was compiled and 1B document copies were approved for 6,40,644 farmers and 99 per cent Aadhaar seeding was done for 6,77,160 farmers, Mr. Krishnamurthy said. Under e-panta programme, steps were taken to provide insurance by assessing the crops raised by farmers and the crop loss. Loans to the tune of Rs. 1,630 crore were sanctioned to 2,39,389 farmers and e-pattadar passbooks were given with 13 security features. As part of efforts to promote industrialisation in Kurnool district, 10,294 acres was earmarked for a mega industrial hub near Orvakal, 3,158 acres for solar plant in Gani and Sakunala villages, 123 acres of railway midlife coach factory, 964 acres for an airport, 150 acres of Santhiram nano-chemical plant, 100 acres of a textile park at Yemmiganur. Labour Minister K. Atchan Naidu said the Nava Nirmana Deeksha programme was aimed at enlightening the people on programmes taken up in a scientific manner to develop all the 13 districts.

Kurnool district achieved a two digit growth in agriculture and service sectors, but lagged behind in agriculture owing to a severe drought, District Collector Ch. Vijayamohan said. He said 34,000 farm ponds dug last year and this year were filled with rain water increasing the groundwater level.

Essential commodities were being supplied to card holders in e-pos system. Efforts were on to transform 350 villages in Kurnool district into open defecation free villages, the Collector added. A sum of Rs. 150 crore sanctioned under the special development package.

Kurnool MLA S.V. Mohan Reddy said the government had sanctioned Rs. 200 crore for augmenting infrastructure and basic amenities in Kurnool city.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would lay foundation stone for beautification works in two months and they would be completed in a year, he added.
