To make it more convenient for people, centers have been opened in schools, colleges, institutions, court complexes, KIMS hospital, University and other public places and organizations. Even to help the employees to get cards at their working places, centres have also been opened in railway workshop, court complex, hospitals.A crowd of enthusiastic people including women and children can be seen in front of the centres waiting for their turn to get enrolled for Aadhaar cards. Speaking TOI, deputy commissioner, Darpan Jain said that with a view to curb the sale of Aadhaar forms in black market, application forms have also been uploaded in the district website and people can upload them and submit at their nearest centre to get enrolled.
"As of today, we have enrolled 5,01,044 people for Aadhaar card in the district and we may cover the entire 17 lakh population even before March. We have also planned to install 50 more systems in the district to speed up the process. If necessary, we may also request the government further extend the date of registration," he said.People can visit any of their nearest centre to get enrolled. People who have enrolled earlier in the district have already started getting their numbers, he said.Suresh Pawar, Sridah Patil, Sujata K and others waiting for their turn in Moosavirmuth ground in Hubli, said, "The opening of many centers has helped us get enrolled d in one day."
Chandrashekhar, Aadhaar coordinator, Gadag, said, initially, there was not much awareness among the rural people in Gadag which caused delay in starting the process but now arrangements being made to set up centre at gram panchayats to enrol rural people.Gadag has so for enrolled 2.75 lakh people while 34 centers were opened and 70 per cent people will be covered by the end of March, he added. Enrolling process suffered a setback in rural areas of Haveri district since many operators had refused to go to villages after some villagers allegedly tried to manhandle them and forced them to keep the centre open after 6pm.
But, now, the problem was sorted out by convincing the villagers and process is going on smoothly in Haveri district, Ravikumar, senior-field manager, Adhaar project.Haveri district has registered 2,80,125 people so for and 41 centres opened now. About 80 per cent of people will be covered by June, 2012, he added.In Gulbarga, 2,39,313 people have enrolled till today while 84 centres have been opened and the process is going on smoothly in Gulbarga, said sources.
