In 2009, I became extremely concerned with the concept of Unique Identity for various reasons. Connected with many like minded highly educated people who were all concerned.
On 18th May 2010, I started this Blog to capture anything and everything I came across on the topic. This blog with its million hits is a testament to my concerns about loss of privacy and fear of the ID being misused and possible Criminal activities it could lead to.
In 2017 the Supreme Court of India gave its verdict after one of the longest hearings on any issue. I did my bit and appealed to the Supreme Court Judges too through an On Line Petition.
In 2019 the Aadhaar Legislation has been revised and passed by the two houses of the Parliament of India making it Legal. I am no Legal Eagle so my Opinion carries no weight except with people opposed to the very concept.
In 2019, this Blog now just captures on a Daily Basis list of Articles Published on anything to do with Aadhaar as obtained from Daily Google Searches and nothing more. Cannot burn the midnight candle any longer.

Aadhaar

The UIDAI has taken two successive governments in India and the entire world for a ride. It identifies nothing. It is not unique. The entire UID data has never been verified and audited. The UID cannot be used for governance, financial databases or anything. It’s use is the biggest threat to national security since independence. – Anupam Saraph 2018

When I opposed Aadhaar in 2010 , I was called a BJP stooge. In 2016 I am still opposing Aadhaar for the same reasons and I am told I am a Congress die hard. No one wants to see why I oppose Aadhaar as it is too difficult. Plus Aadhaar is FREE so why not get one ? Ram Krishnaswamy

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.-Mahatma Gandhi

In matters of conscience, the law of the majority has no place.Mahatma Gandhi

“The invasion of privacy is of no consequence because privacy is not a fundamental right and has no meaning under Article 21. The right to privacy is not a guaranteed under the constitution, because privacy is not a fundamental right.” Article 21 of the Indian constitution refers to the right to life and liberty -Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi

“There is merit in the complaints. You are unwittingly allowing snooping, harassment and commercial exploitation. The information about an individual obtained by the UIDAI while issuing an Aadhaar card shall not be used for any other purpose, save as above, except as may be directed by a court for the purpose of criminal investigation.”-A three judge bench headed by Justice J Chelameswar said in an interim order.

Legal scholar Usha Ramanathan describes UID as an inverse of sunshine laws like the Right to Information. While the RTI makes the state transparent to the citizen, the UID does the inverse: it makes the citizen transparent to the state, she says.

Good idea gone bad
I have written earlier that UID/Aadhaar was a poorly designed, unreliable and expensive solution to the really good idea of providing national identification for over a billion Indians. My petition contends that UID in its current form violates the right to privacy of a citizen, guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution. This is because sensitive biometric and demographic information of citizens are with enrolment agencies, registrars and sub-registrars who have no legal liability for any misuse of this data. This petition has opened up the larger discussion on privacy rights for Indians. The current Article 21 interpretation by the Supreme Court was done decades ago, before the advent of internet and today’s technology and all the new privacy challenges that have arisen as a consequence.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MP Rajya Sabha

“What is Aadhaar? There is enormous confusion. That Aadhaar will identify people who are entitled for subsidy. No. Aadhaar doesn’t determine who is eligible and who isn’t,” Jairam Ramesh

But Aadhaar has been mythologised during the previous government by its creators into some technology super force that will transform governance in a miraculous manner. I even read an article recently that compared Aadhaar to some revolution and quoted a 1930s historian, Will Durant.Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Rajya Sabha MP

“I know you will say that it is not mandatory. But, it is compulsorily mandatorily voluntary,” Jairam Ramesh, Rajya Saba April 2017.

August 24, 2017: The nine-judge Constitution Bench rules that right to privacy is “intrinsic to life and liberty”and is inherently protected under the various fundamental freedoms enshrined under Part III of the Indian Constitution

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the World; indeed it's the only thing that ever has"

“Arguing that you don’t care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say.” -Edward Snowden

In the Supreme Court, Meenakshi Arora, one of the senior counsel in the case, compared it to living under a general, perpetual, nation-wide criminal warrant.

Had never thought of it that way, but living in the Aadhaar universe is like living in a prison. All of us are treated like criminals with barely any rights or recourse and gatekeepers have absolute power on you and your life.

Announcing the launch of the # BreakAadhaarChainscampaign, culminating with events in multiple cities on 12th Jan. This is the last opportunity to make your voice heard before the Supreme Court hearings start on 17th Jan 2018. In collaboration with @no2uidand@rozi_roti.

UIDAI's security seems to be founded on four time tested pillars of security idiocy

1) Denial

2) Issue fiats and point finger

3) Shoot messenger

4) Bury head in sand.

Indian (India)
Con-govt is incapable of doing any thing right. They only create confusion, and more confusion to make the life of Indian people miserable. We must get rid of this pathetic and corrupt govt. at the earliest opportunity.

Writer (India)
It's time that the whole system goes hand in hand towards a better future!

maheshchandra150 (chennai)
commission of GANDHI family???????

subbarao (Hyderabad)
Who said Aadhaar has any purpose other than to elevate Nilekani to a minister or bring congress to power in the next elections? Its not enough if intention is good, the implementation should be equally effective.

Tapan ROY (Chennai)
From the very beginning the Aadhar card was a non-starter. It was a brain child pf UPA govt. and It does not have a legal binding. UPA has wasted thousand of crore of tax payers money in this way.

maheshchandra150 (chennai)
who is responcibile for 50 thausand crore??????

Jaishankar Prasad (jharkhand)
Why to invest such huge money when it serves no public use . If there is any shortcomings then it must be rectified and should be used as primary identification card. Or the scheme should be closed.

Kevin (Bangalore)
Another waste of time project,... They didn have clear cut frame work since its inception it seems

maheshchandra150 (chennai)
50 thausand crore waste????????

Getting a card is such a pain in the ---. The entire process was so unprofessional. Even months after getting the e version of it, I did not receive the hard copy of it. Came to know that, a lot of cards were found in a pile somewhere in the open, near a place where I live.

Tarun Mathur (Unknown)
This was government's own ambitious project started for its own benefit by the government. In a country, where people don't have even the basic election commission card, how this aadhar card can be expected as successful? The election commission card works both as a photo identity and address proof, then why this aadhar card was made mandatory? After some years, this aadhar card will also become obsolete and government will come up with some other card. We don't understand that how many proofs are required to ascertain one nationality and identity? And the person behind this project, Mr. Nandan Nilekani, is eager to join Congress

Shubham Kandhway (Delhi)
Aadhar was originally planned for providing Identity to every Indian citizen. it was never supposed to be used for govt welfare schemes. the govt went insane in linking its so called poll winning schemes for publicity. Wel fare schemes should be linked to NPR not Aadhar.

Sunil (Bangalore)
Cotroversial mess, These guys don't take all stake holders into consideration, during proposal. Now, after enrolling & spending millions, they have a valuable query...

Haunted (GRAVE)
All the Aadhaar cards issued to Muslim Community must be abolishes as they nowhere are Indian Citizen "Morally".

himanshunandan (Delhi)
Congress is slowly becoming party of SCRAP pickers..Wasting public money for nothing

Tapesh Gupta (Raipur)
uf,,,,again central Govt. fail to protect his policy ,... this is a question for kapil, diggi, chittu, mauni baba.....?

THINGS IN THIS COUNTRY ARE DONE IN AN ARBITRARY MANNER.... WE HAVE PASSPORTS, RATION CARDS, VOTER ID CARDS, DRIVING LICENSE CARDS, UID CARDS, AADHAR CARDS BUT NOBODY IS SURE WHICH CARD WOULD BE APPLICABLE WHERE...... I DO NOT REMEMBER BUT SOME ORGANISATION REFUSED TO MY PASSPORT COPY ..... YOU HAVE TO WORK IN HANUMANJI STYLE AND CARRY FULL RANGE OF CARDS TO GET THE SPECIFIC WORK DONE ACCORDING TO THE WHIMS OF DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS

sb (singapore)
Dont agree fully with supreme court decision. Unique Identity card works very well in many country. Agree that this card should not be mandatory for emergency services but we must carry on to provide this card to all indian citizen. It can be very useful for security, project implementation, corruption prevention and can act as a system fix for many other issues that India has.

Arul S (Bangalore)
Adhaar/NPR ID is required as per supreme court, but it only questions issue of Adhaar to immigrants and refugee converted to citizens. Adhaar/NPR ID is a fantastic system but politicians what to use it for their benefits. Its good that supreme court must retrain one entity from proceeding further. NPR ID is issued by population register which issues based on previous senses data. Hope they restrict issue of these ID's only to citizens.

SKSG (Mumbai)
Were Supreme Court SLEEPING for so many months, since the day the UPA govt. had planned and took initiatives to make such card manadatory for all govt. services, crores of rupees spent ????

Mallikarjuna Rao T.V.L.N. (Raipur)
Ironically, the Chief of UIDAI Mr. Nandan is contesting as MP from Bangalore City. There are also news reports that the Congress is going to use the services of Mr. Nandan to canvass through latest electronic gadgets. Is there any assurance from the Government of India that the data collected by the UIDAI will not be used by the Congress Party in the forthcoming elections? As the data will invariably contains all the details, it will be easy for Mr. Nandan to devise a suitable software to lure the voters of this country to cast their vote for CONGRESS. Hence, continuance of Mr. Nadan as the chief of UIDAI is conflict of interest.

Hemant Gahlot (Ratlam MP)
why should it be believed that every decision by SC is to taken as right? Human err and it is humane to err.

Abhigyan Srivastava (Delhi)
Wonderful news. SC has raised genuine concerns which is voiced by several of us. We, the citizens, have been hearing about such cards for so long. First it was Voter I Card, then came Pan Card and then Aadhaar card. With Voter I Card, apart from giving votes nothing else came. Pan Card became a tool of getting more taxes and Adhaar card has failed to become an Adhaar. Till the time the Govt. thinks beyond the voters there cannot be a single identity card. And ofcourse illegal migrants should not be turned into voters.

Ram (pune)
This Adhar is introduced to help nilkeni financially so that he will have enough funds to join politics. Secondly, to sell Indians data to foreign countries on demand. Most of the Bangladesis are issued with this card by politicians. It is total waste of labor and money .

Mani Iyer (India)
Hats Off To Supreme Court Millions of BD and Pakis have already obtained Aadhar through UPA route

Lalit Kumar (SEOSEMAnalyticsExpert)
Supreme court should have ordered long time back. Congress tactics of using Aadhar scheme to play vote bank politics will not hurt to that extent, since these thugs have adequate data to play with and continue with their divide and rule policies. Last reported, in several states bangladeshi muslims were one of the most prominent beneficiaries of getting their illegal residency in India legalized. Aadhar was one of the treachry and apathy filled anti-Indian policy of Khangress govt for patriot Indians........................

Chandran Nair (Doha)
Who is responsible for the mammoth money spend on this project...? when will we have visionaries as our rulers..? The present one seems from Tugliqian dynasty..

Umesh Nair (Muscat, Oman)
It looks like the order is mis-intepreted. It could be that at this point of time, Aadhaar can't be made mandatory for different schemes. However in long-run, once major Indian population is enrolled, Aadhaar will be a good tool for all these scheme. Not sure why Home Ministry want different ID card. We should get rid of all other cards and have only Aaddhaar card. It should be like the SSN in U.S.

Anil Kumar (Location)
9 long years and thousands of crores of rupees wasted. Who is answerable for the disaster and what is his punishment?e

rrana1963 (Mandi Ahmedgarh)
A VERY VERY GOOD JOB DONE BY HON'BLE COURT. ITS DECISION IS TO BE IMPLEMENTED IN LETTER AND SPIRIT SO THAT PEOPLE ARE NOT HARASSED NOT HAVING UID.

Hemanath (Bangalore)
Then why spend public money like this?? If Govt is not serious about it, they should scrap it.

Chandran Nair (Doha)
Our rulers are not visionaries... but just Tuglaqs... Poor India becoming Poorer... Must have a change...

Ajax Ajax (Bangalore) replies to Chandran Nair
Cant Agree more ....

a4abhik (Location)
Insufficient planning.

sishir patnaik (Location)
What ever the Maunimohan Singh Govt is doing since last 5 years is turned by the Supreme Court due to ambiguity or bad intention of the govt. This indicates the bad intentions of the present Govt. headed by Sonia where Maunimohan is s dummy, what a pity.

Easwar Venkatraman (Mumbai)
Now the Aadhar would be put in the back burner. Congress has two mangoes in a hit of single stone. They have looted money through Aadhar and now they have also made Nandan Nilekani to come down from flying high after the proclaimed success of UIDAI.

varinder pal singh
aur kaha kaha congress apni aisi tessi karai gi

Devinder (New Delhi)
I had always doubted the Aadhar scheme. there are also lot of delays etc. in delivery of Aadhar cards

jsomasekara2007 (Bangalore)
One must understand when Pan Card or voter ID card is sufficient and valid for identification what is the need of Aadhaar. Govt is collecting important personal details of individuals which have potential danger of falling into hands of criminals. Govt has assured that date will be safe. How can we believe when Govt is not able to keep safe most secured coal files and not able to trace it. Even When SC is monitoring it ministers are taking it casually So if poor individuals are cheated by criminals using Aadhaar data will gov't come to their rescue? See everyday lakhs of Rupees are siphoned off from credit cards and bank accounts by criminals. What steps are taken by govt to prevent it? A system is to be implemented only if it is 100% fool proof. Aadhaar is not foolproof.

Veerendra Kumar Nethi ()
Nice slap to UPA as they were so much eager to issue AAdhaar cards to all illegal Bangladeshi & Pakistani migrants and provide them all the advantages as they r the potential vote bank for these corrupt UPA.

Satish Kumar (Bangalore)
No wonder why Nandan Nilenkani decided to contest in the next general elections on a congress ticket.

bhartiya hindustani (Unknown)
AADHAR CARD is just a aadhar for khangress parties vote bank..... as before a indian can get his card bangladeshis are geting it on priority.....

Sajan Nath (Alipore)
Yeh toh pagalpan hain. How can they say that Aadhar is invalid. Infact Aadhar is the best way to ensure that only legitimate people get benefits and stop this corruption and bogus spending. The SC sometimes makes idiotic judgments

Lal Narang (Pune)
50000 crores the Government has spent and less than 50% people have got Aadhar Cards which mow have the junk value. So once again this massive loss of funds has turned into fraud on the people of this country. So now we know that this inadequate government has been spending our money senselessly, without planning and without ensuring the end use. Now it may again come out with another such gimmick spending even more if it remains in power. Government has to account for this nationwide blunder which has resulted in hitting the economy. rising inflation and shooting the rupee down And there must be millions who have not even been contacted for issue of cards. Unfortunately the failure of government on all fronts is still continuing its downward journey and shall continue till its ouster or fall. But yet the money is lost and is not recoverable. Please ensure that this must not happen- the Government must not be allowed to come back- other wise you are bound to lose whatever is left with you.

Mukesh Tank (Mumbai)
Mr. Nandan Nilekani, has being the head of wasting the scare resources of India and providing nothing, can he become good leader. Guys decide for your self......

Veerendra Kumar Nethi ()
A nice blow to the UPA government who were very much eager to issue AAdhaar Card to illegal migrants from Bangladesh and Pakistan and wanted to give them all the advantages as they r the potential vote bank to them.

Kiran Kanchibhotla (Hyd, AP)
I guess instead of now trying to come up with another perfect system. I am of the opinion that we should fill the gaps in this system and make it more competent. The reach and amount of work that is done on this is huge and hence we should fix the gaps in this scheme rather than coming up with a whole new scheme.

VIVEK SRIVASTAVA (bangalore)
Congress is getting a lot of bashing these days from SC

borromeo moraes (Margao)
Some days back SC made a statement that passport in not a proof of citizenship. Now UDI is not a proof of identity. Then how do you identify an Indian citizen? I know UDIs have been issued without checking the credentials of the individual. But then what reliable credential do Indias have ? When government thought of UDI, I was under the impression that they would begin by covering the government and semi government employees that is from services to nationalised banks, whose credentials have already been established. Then they could move down to private sector. I am talking about the permanent employees here then go to unorganised sector. That would still leave us with quite big chunk of our population without any proof of identy. Still the task would be much easier and more thorough. I don't know. May be I am wrong. But after more than 65 years of independence we still don't have an identy is quite shameful.

Rahul Barnwal (New Delhi)
The SC judgment to the PIL is on the dot. Sadly, the timing of this decision is a bit tricky, considering the ground progress made till date. It is expected that there will be a review petition filled by the Executive in the SC. We as individual citizens would not like this system to fail now that so much of tax paid money has been sunk-in. Yes the clear hints given by the SC need to be built-in and the cards issued till date be re-examined to screen out the illegitimate Aadhaar holders.

siddu (Gulbarga)
Giving Aadhar to Indian citizens is good. But giving it to illegal migrants is dangerous.

zeyaalam (Varanasi)
It is a relief to common citizen.

Sankara Narayanan (New Delhi)
IF THE AADHAAR CARD HAS NO LEGAL STANDING, WHY DID THE UNION GOVERNMENT SPENT MORE THAN 16000 CRORES AT LEAST ON THIS COUNT? THIS IS THE TAX PAYER'S MONEY THAT IS BEING WASTED. IF AADHHAR CARD IS LEGALLY INVALID, THEN PASS AN ORDINANCE TO MAKE IT VALID FOLLOWING WHICH LAWS SHOULD BE ENACTED BY INDIAN PARLIAMENT. IN THE UNITED STATES, THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ID CARDS. LET THE SAME SYSTEM BE INTRODUCED HERE IN INDIA TOO SO THAT NO ONE CAN WANDER HERE IN INDIA WITH OUT ANY LEGAL IDENTITY.

ar (mumbai)
what a loss for upa....we never believe that money would have ever reached our bank accounts..... sonia had plans to swindle money that was meant for subsidy..... tough luck babe....plan a terrorist attack on supreme court n don't give de charge to ur super smart son.... he will end up getting 10 janpath bombarded instead ...u see his state of mind wont allow him to execute di job... !!!

sandybo (Pune)
What a mess done by Govt. Aadhaar card is not just for Identity Govt are providing subsidy direct cash on the basis of Aadhaar Card, It might happen that the he/she having Aadhaar car don't belong to INDIA....

Ak Khan (Unknown)
Like other foreign countries people of India also felt that there would be one ID card for all government works etc. but now that also flop show increase the number of cards and ID, like voter ID, DL, PAN, Passport and Ration Card.

Vikas Kapoor (Bangalore, India)
Oh Dear! Aadhaar is now niradhaar! What to do with Aadhaar card now? can't even use as a toilet paper :D Wondering what happens to all the data these guys accumulated? Will they sell it to reduce Fiscal deficit?! Is there a way to return back the Aadhaar card & get your personal data 'purged' ?

Sumit Kumar (Gurgaon)
Right direction from the court.......

Anil (UAE)
Let Adhaar card be an identity card and not be a proof of citizenship. It Can later be linked to proof of citizenship like passport. For now its OK if it is issued to immegrants as well, as it will still help track who we are dealing with and what benefits can be offered to a particular individual with given credentials.

Tomsan Kattackal (Unknown)
The project itself was ill conceived and badly planned.

Vikas Kapoor (Bangalore, India)

agree ... proper verification about citizenship must be done before issuing Aadhaar card ... in my case we were asked to bring proofs of residence, ID proofs, PAN cards etc at the time of ssuing Aadhaar cards..... no person who is not a citizen of india shud be provided with the card since the card open doors to so many freebies ..... but again how does the govt plan to control corrupt officials who will get fake documents made for almost anybody for small petty gains ....

SRIDHARAN (SECUNDERABAD)
WHAT A LOOT !
LOOT OF PUBLIC MONEY IN THOUSANDS OF CRORES !
RECOVER EVERY PAISE FROM THAT 'MAN FROM INFOSYS' !

rohit (bangalore)
Aadhaar is a joke and its a mockery of Tax payers money.....they say its not even a address proof and not even an identity proof as its does not have enough data on it......... what a waste ...

Subir Chandra ()
Looking at the track record of corrupt ministers in UPA Govt. I wonder what these people can do with the biometric details of an unsuspecting law abiding citizen. One small example can help. Anubody having access to these servers can print a duplicate card and use it to get a mobile connection. This connection then can be used to accomplish terrorist activity. So in the end who gets caught? Please say no to biometrics... UK, US also do not store biometrics. It can be used as weapons more deadly than the nuclear one.
