In 2009, I became extremely concerned with the concept of Unique Identity for various reasons. Connected with many like minded highly educated people who were all concerned.
On 18th May 2010, I started this Blog to capture anything and everything I came across on the topic. This blog with its million hits is a testament to my concerns about loss of privacy and fear of the ID being misused and possible Criminal activities it could lead to.
In 2017 the Supreme Court of India gave its verdict after one of the longest hearings on any issue. I did my bit and appealed to the Supreme Court Judges too through an On Line Petition.
In 2019 the Aadhaar Legislation has been revised and passed by the two houses of the Parliament of India making it Legal. I am no Legal Eagle so my Opinion carries no weight except with people opposed to the very concept.
In 2019, this Blog now just captures on a Daily Basis list of Articles Published on anything to do with Aadhaar as obtained from Daily Google Searches and nothing more. Cannot burn the midnight candle any longer.

Legal scholar Usha Ramanathan describes UID as an inverse of sunshine laws like the Right to Information. While the RTI makes the state transparent to the citizen, the UID does the inverse: it makes the citizen transparent to the state, she says.

Good idea gone bad
I have written earlier that UID/Aadhaar was a poorly designed, unreliable and expensive solution to the really good idea of providing national identification for over a billion Indians. My petition contends that UID in its current form violates the right to privacy of a citizen, guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution. This is because sensitive biometric and demographic information of citizens are with enrolment agencies, registrars and sub-registrars who have no legal liability for any misuse of this data. This petition has opened up the larger discussion on privacy rights for Indians. The current Article 21 interpretation by the Supreme Court was done decades ago, before the advent of internet and today’s technology and all the new privacy challenges that have arisen as a consequence.

Officials eye most Aadhaar coverage in next 2 months

PUNE: The district administration has decided to go all out to make the most of the deadline extension to link Aadhaar with various services till March 31. 

As per the plans, the administration will deploy maximum operators and machines in the next two months to bring most of the population under Aadhaar coverage. Sharing this information with TOI, Pune district collector Saurabh Rao on Tuesday said a total of 231 Aadhaar kits have been operational and another 100 new machines will be added. 

He said for the extra machines permission has been sought from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). "Besides, 70 dysfunctional machines will be repaired and 151 new operators will be added in the district to help speed up the enrolment process," the collector added. 

The UCL kits, which can speed up the process of updating Aadhaar information, too have been procured and will be operational from next week, Rao said. 

On the issue of senior citizens and the disabled, nodal officer Vikas Bhalerao said, "For such people, the administration has got 108 applications to have the Aadhaar kits sent to their homes. As many as 18 people have availed this facility, so far." 

The proposal for roping in private operators is in the last stage of approval and about 32 names have been suggested. "They will operate from the government premises for better monitoring," an official from the district administration said. 

The collector said the district was working with just 40-50 machines about a month ago. "This number has now gone up to 231. As per an earlier GR, there should have been at least 300 machines operational in the corporation area. We would want to increase the numbers to make the services easily accessible to the people. Once this happens, people will not have to queue up at the centres," he said. Special camps on Saturday and Sunday with roaming kits will also be carried out eventually, he added.

Meanwhile, UIDAI issued yet another notification on Tuesday, directing banks to seek an explicit consent of the beneficiary before changing the account to which the government subsidy was being remitted. Several residents had raised the issue of their LPG subsidy going into accounts, which were not linked.

"The banks have been asked to intimate the beneficiaries about the change (in account for LPG subsidy) within 24-hours through SMS and e-mail. They should also provide the beneficiaries an option to reverse the change," a gazette notification issued by UIDAI stated.

Before confirming about this, start more Aadhar centers to enroll fresh Aadhar cards. People are facing so much problem because of this.
