Chandigarh:
The new version called version 1.3, which will be launched in a month from now, comes with the provision wherein the biometric and demographic information of the head of the family will be sufficient for enrollment of the rest of the family members. All a family member has to do is produce proof of his or her relationship with the head of family while enrolling.
“For an applicant aged below 18 years, his/ her birth certificate will be a suitable document for establishing the relationship with the father or mother while for homemakers, marriage certificates can be used for referring to husband’s details. Besides, a ration card is the best-suited option for the purpose, since it carries details of the entire family,” an official from UIDAI’s regional office in Chandigarh told Newsline.
“During our recent inspections at the enrollment centres, we received various queries regarding non-availability of any of the three documents required for enrollment. Generally children aged below 18 years of age, non-working women, people who are illiterate or those who have just moved into the city encounter this problem. The new version has been specifically planned to address this difficulty,” added the UIDAI official.
As many as 60 registrars and officials from enrollment agencies from across the region, including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Jammu and Kashmir, will undergo training on August 12 to get equipped with the new version. The enrollment ID issued to the head of family - also called “introducer” - will be used as the reference number for accessing his recorded details during the enrollment of other members. “While establishing the relationship, the introducer will have to accompany the applicant to the enrollment centre for verification of the biometric information,” said another official. Meanwhile, the Authority has enrolled more than 2.5 lakh residents in the UT by now and nearly 22,000 UIDs have already been issued.
The documents required for individual enrollments otherwise include one proof each for identity (any photo ID), residence and date of birth. The residence proof helps in identification of address for correspondence where the UID number is later sent by post. Observing that the number is unique for each applicant across the country, UIDAI officials said people need to ensure that they do not enroll themselves more than once since the de-duplication process consumes a lot of time and invites a burden for officials.
